Gysto — Privacy Policy

Effective date: 17 September 2026

Gysto (“the app”) is a smart pantry and food-waste-reduction app developed by Alberto Sartori (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what the app does with your information. It describes the app as it currently works and is dated above; we may update it, and the date will always reflect the current version.

Who we are

Data controller: Alberto Sartori. Contact: gysto.app@gmail.com.

Your data stays on your device

Gysto works on your device. Everything you enter — pantry items, receipts, recipes and related information — is stored in a local database on your phone. Using the app requires no account and no sign-up. Gysto contains no analytics, advertising, tracking or crash-reporting tools, and does not build a profile of you.

Product lookups (Open Food Facts)

When you look up or scan a product, Gysto sends that product’s barcode — together with your language and region codes, so results are localized — to Open Food Facts, a third-party food-product database, to retrieve information about the item. This happens only when you look up a product, and no account or personal identifier is attached to the request. As with any internet request, Open Food Facts receives the network information inherent to the connection, such as your IP address. Open Food Facts handles this data under its own privacy policy.

Optional backup to your Google Drive

Gysto offers an optional backup feature, turned off by default. Gysto asks permission to access a private, app-specific area of your Google Drive the first time you turn automatic backup on, the first time you start a backup yourself, or the first time you ask to restore a backup, and stores there a snapshot (a copy) of your local database, so you can restore your data on a new device.

Optional purchase (Gysto Pro)

Every feature of the app works without paying. If you choose to support the app with a one-off purchase, the purchase is handled entirely by Google Play, under Google’s terms and privacy policy: your payment details and your Google Play account are never seen by the app.

Errors recorded on your device

When something goes wrong inside the app, Gysto writes a short note about it on your device: the error message, the technical trace of where it happened, and how many times it has recurred. Only the last few errors are kept, older ones are discarded, and the record is stored with the app’s settings — never inside your backup, so a restored backup never carries another phone’s errors. Nothing in it is ever transmitted. You can see what it holds, and clear it by clearing the app’s data.

Feedback and problem reports you choose to send

If you contact us by email (for example to send feedback or report a problem), we receive whatever you choose to write, including your email address. We use it only to reply to you.

The Report a problem and Write to us rows in the app prepare such an email for you. Report a problem fills it in with the app version, the database version and your Android version, plus the most recent recorded error described above; Write to us carries the app version alone. In both cases the app only opens your own email app with the message ready: nothing leaves your phone unless you press send, and you can read and edit everything before you do.

Your control over your data

Because your data lives on your device — and, if you enable backup, in your own Google Drive — you are in control of it. You can delete it at any time by removing items in the app, clearing the app’s data, uninstalling the app, and, for backups, by deleting the backup or revoking access from your Google Drive settings. We do not hold a copy of your data to delete on your behalf.

Children

Gysto is not directed at children. It collects no personal data regardless of the user’s age.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The effective date at the top always reflects the current version.
